Did Uganda wait too long before it announced Marburg case?

John Silco report to Radio France international on Marburg
Did Uganda wait too long before it announced Marburg case?07 Oct 2014
In Uganda, the health ministry says it is monitoring almost 100 people suspected of having contracted the Marburg virus, after they were in contact with an infected person who died. Monday's statement comes after the government confirmed that a 30-year-old man died of the disease in a Kampala hospital, on September 28th. In 2012, an outbreak of the same virus killed 10 people in Uganda. Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda has assured the public that the government can deal with any outbreak. But residents of Kass - a district in Western Uganda where the man was buried - are worried. John Silco Murugahara - a coordinator of an interfaith program in Kass - told RFI's Sonia Rolley that the government waited too long to announce the outbreak.
